L'actrice et féministe italienne Franca Rame est décédée aujourd'hui à l'âge de 83 ans. Elle était l'épouse et partenaire depuis plus d'un demi-siècle du prix Nobel de la littérature Dario Fo.

Née le 18 juillet 1929 dans la région de Milan (au nord de l'Italie) dans une famille d'acteurs et d'artistes, liée au théâtre des marionnettes, elle entame sa propre carrière artistique en 1950. Quatre ans plus tard, elle épouse Dario Fo, écrivain, dramaturge et acteur, prix Nobel de la littérature en 1997. Débute alors entre les deux une collaboration ininterrompue dans l'art et la politique.

Ensemble, ils mettent sur pied en 1958 la compagnie théâtrale "Dario Fo et Franca Rame company" : lui est écrivain et metteur en scène, elle actrice et administratrice. Les deux s'engagent activement dans les années 60 et 70 dans des mouvements gauchistes et féministes.

Franca Rame sera brièvement enlevée par des militants d'extrême-droite en 1973, subissant à cette occasion violences physiques et viol. Ces agresseurs n'ont jamais été condamnés définitivement en raison d'une prescription intervenue après 25 ans. Elle a évoqué cette expérience dans une pièce écrite par elle-même en 1981, Le viol.

Franca Rame avait été élue en 2006 sénatrice du parti Italie des valeurs (IDV) de l'ex-juge anti-corruption Antonio Di Pietro, mais avait ensuite abandonné la chambre haute en 2008, frustrée par l'inertie du système politique italien.
